After 20 years as country mice in the Florida Keys followed by 12 as city mice in Las Vegas, Nancy and husband Paul of 55 years returned to live again as country mice in rural Palm Bay Florida. Their home now is a large mid-century cottage. Their street has neither sidewalks nor streetlights, but on clear nights they can see the stars.

Nancy and Paul’s cottage has a large grassy back yard surrounded by a six-foot wood privacy fence. Squirrels scamper daily along the top of the fence, leaping back and forth between fence and tree, and flocks of egrets fly in weekly to poke their long, curved bills into the lawn in search of what egrets eat. At the rear of the house, a slider, which leads to a cozy covered lanai, makes a safe egret and squirrel watching spot for the family cats. The lanai itself is home to Nancy’s orchid collection.

Out front, adjacent to the front door of the cottage and protected by a masonry hip wall, Nancy has planted a small flower garden with which to welcome visitors.

Nancy and Paul find the cottage a quiet and relaxed place for Paul to work and Nancy to create her unique jewelry designs.
