Scott and Melissa

Congratulations to Melissa Edwards and Scott Wehrmeyer of Jacksonville, Florida, who were married at sunset on Sombrero Beach in the Middle Florida Keys on September 9, 2007.

Rain had threatened the past few weddings we have done, but the day Scott and Melissa selected as their wedding day turned out to be a particularly wet one. It turned out to be the last day in a whole week of stormy days and thunder clap nights. Scott and Melissa and their families had planned to stay the week, so postponing the ceremony was a possibility. But Melissa knew the rain would stop, and so did we, so we all spent the day assuming the skies would clear and the ceremony would occur as planned. And it did. That is the power of positive thinking.

Because of the rain, everyone who would normally be on the beach at sunset had made other plans, leaving the beach to our small wedding party: Scott and Melissa's folks, baby Logan, and the bride and groom. Scott and Melissa exchanged vows and posed for a few photographs, and then we all decided it was time to leave the beach to the no-see-ums brought out onto the sand by dusk and the damp air.

Scott and Melissa and family planned to spend the week out on the water, searching for spiny lobster. NOAA predicted a better week with calm winds and periodic rain, so we wish everyone a safe and successful bug hunt.

And we wish Scott and Melissa and little Logan a long and happy life together.
